Big Oreo Chocolate Cookies

From the kitchen of Terrie Jeffs.
This is a huge favorite in my home growing up and I just absolutely love these cookies!!!


Ingredients:
*1/2 C shortening
*1 Egg
*2 C flour
*1/2 t salt
*1/2 C hot water
*1 C sugar
*1 Egg yoke (save white for frosting)
*1/3-2/3 C unsweetened cocoa
*1 t baking soda
*2/3 C buttermilk (1t lemon juice + 1 C milk= Buttermilk)

1.Preheat oven to 350.
2.Mix shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, flour, cocoa and salt.
3. Dissolve baking soda in hot water.
4.Add soda mixture alternating with buttermilk.
5. Drop by teaspoon on un-greased sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes. Let completely cool before putting frosting in between two cookies.

Ingredients for Frosting:
*2 C powdered sugar
*1 egg white
*1 t vanilla
*1/4 C margarine
*1/2 C shortening

1. Mix all ingredients together and put on cookies.


My Review:
Delicious!!! These are my all time favorite cookies ever. I am not a big cookie person, in fact I really don't even like the store-bought oreo cookies however these are delicious. They do take a lot of time to make but they are worth it in the end.
If you are wanting to give some to friends or neighbors or make for a party, you may consider doubling the batch to get more cookies.
